High School Study Abroad Programs - Student Support
While abroad, U.S. students enrolled in CIEE's High School Study Abroad Programs have four levels of support:
- Host Families: Students' first support system comes from their host family, who will help them with personal problems and school issues.
- Local Coordinators : These are the people who initially find and screen host families, match the students with host families, enroll the students in school, check up on students and host families throughout the program and write periodic reports to CIEE about the students' progress. Local coordinators are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for emergencies, and they make regular visits to the students to see them and find out how they are doing. In addition, they often arrange monthly excursions with other high school study abroad students.
- Partner Office Abroad: Each country has a program office. The Local Coordinators are employed by these offices and report to them about students and families. Students may call them if the Local Coordinator is unavailable or not able to solve their problem.
CIEE High School Study Abroad Support Staff in Portland, ME: The CIEE Support team works closely with partner offices to resolve student problems and to report to students' natural parents.
