CIEE High School Abroad programs, Summer High School Abroad programs, and Gap Year Abroad programs provide U.S. high school students and recent high school graduates with an unforgettable international experience. Since 1947, CIEE has sent over 50,000 U.S. youth to locations around the globe. These programs allow U.S high school students and recent high school graduates to study abroad, to live with a native host family, work abroad, and/or volunteer, and to challenge themselves on a new level by becoming fully immersed in a language and a new culture.

student support

While abroad, U.S. students enrolled in the CIEE Summer High School Study Abroad Programs have four levels of support:

Host Families and National Olympic Youth Center Staff:
A student's first support system comes from their host family (China) or Center staff (Japan), who will help them with personal problems and school issues,

Local Coordinator/Local Guide:
Local coordinators are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for emergencies, and they make regular visits to the students to see them and find out how they are doing. In addition, they often arrange monthly excursions with other high school study abroad students.

Partner Office Abroad:
Each country has a program office. A local coordinator/local guide are employed by these offices and report to them about students and families. Students may call them for support if the Local Coordinator/local guide is unavailable or not able to solve their problem.

CIEE Summer Abroad Chaperone :
The CIEE chaperone works closely with partner offices and CIEE in Portland, ME to resolve student problems and to report to a student's natural parents.
