student support
While abroad, U.S. students enrolled in the CIEE High School Abroad programs have four levels of support:
- Host Families: A primary support system comes from their host families, who will help students with personal problems and school issues.
- Local Coordinators: These are the people who initially find and screen host families, match the students with host families, enroll the students in school, check up on students and host families throughout the program, and write periodic reports to CIEE about the students' progress. Local Coordinators are available for emergencies, and they often make regular visits and phone calls to the students to see them and find out how they are doing.
- Partner Office Abroad: Each country has a partner office. The Local Coordinators are employed by these offices and report to them about students and families. Students may call them for support if the Local Coordinator is unavailable or not able to solve their problem.
- CIEE High School Abroad Support Staff in Portland, ME: The CIEE support team works closely with partner offices to resolve student problems and to report to students' natural parents.
