"When I first arrived in Spain everything was very overwhelming. My Spanish wasn’t as strong as I had hoped it would be and everything about Spain seemed really strange compared to where I live in the U.S. For the first two weeks that I was in Spain I thought that I might have made a big mistake when I chose to spend the year abroad. It is hard to be away from family, friends, and home for such a long time. After I was in Spain for about a month I realized what an amazing place it really is. I have improved my Spanish immensely and I am learning things that I would never have learned back home in Virginia. This exchange trip is the best thing I have ever done. I have met amazing people, seen the world from a different perspective and grown individually. I recommend a year abroad for everyone. It is truly an amazing experience that I wouldn’t trade for anything in the world!"
