CIEE support
Our program in Chile offers an unparalleled opportunity to experience Chile as a local. Our partner, headquartered in Santiago, is responsible for the screening, interviewing, and selected host families and schools for our students as well as support during their stay. Each student will be assigned a local coordinator. These local coordinators provide supervision and support for the students during their stay. Many are fluent in English and Spanish, and most live within 10 miles of the student and host family. Students will enroll in a local high school and should expect to fully participate in the academic program conducted in Spanish.
orientation
Orientation will take place in Boston one day before departure. They consist of a comprehensive program including important topics such as an introduction to your host country, health and safety, tips on how to adjust to a new culture and language, the academic program, and getting to know other high school students going to the same country. The rest of the time is spent on sightseeing in the area, restaurants and evening activities. Students will be met at the airport, housed in hotels with other participants. CIEE staff will stay in the hotel with the students and will accompany them to their overseas check-in. Representatives from our partner organization will meet our students when they arrive in Chile for an onsite orientation in Santiago prior to departing for their final destination.
placements
Participating students will likely be placed with families in Valparaiso, Los Angeles, or Santiago. These three cities offer a wide range of options—Valparaiso is located on the Pacific coast, Santiago is the nation's capital, and Los Angeles is located in the heartland. Students are often placed in schools alongside their host siblings. We will select and screen host families throughout Chile, depending on the school where the student is accepted. All placements will be made in Spanish speaking schools.
