One of the most important goals of the Gap Year Abroad program in Paris is that you achieve a better understanding of the French culture from an insider's perspective through community service. Gap students in Paris will help teach English and assist teachers in local schools. On average, you can expect to volunteer for four hours per week for eight weeks. Most teaching internships will begin sometime between two and three weeks after your arrival. Students will receive instruction in teaching techniques and two weeks of observation in the classroom prior to the start of their service. All participants must be 18 prior to the start of their community service.
It is extremely important that you commit to your community service responsibilities. As an assistant teacher in a French school, the students will be eagerly waiting for you each time they have class with you and teachers' lesson plans will depend upon your participation.
