About CIEE

Why CIEE?

Founded in 1947, CIEE is a non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to quality exchange and global learning opportunities. The CIEE USA High School program is designated by the U.S. State Department to sponsor our students on a J-1 visa to attend high school in America. We are also approved by the Council on Standards for International Educational Travel (CSIET). Our mission is “to help people gain understanding, acquire knowledge and develop skills for living in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse world.” We are accomplishing our mission through diverse programs ranging from the secondary level to teacher and faculty development seminars.

USA High School Program

The CIEE USA High School program is a 5 or 10-month academic, homestay program that enables qualified international high school students to attend high school in the U.S. while living with a host family. Host families across the U.S. invite students into their homes, as a member of their family to fully participate in all aspects of family, and community life. CIEE presently has over 1,300 high school students from 55 different countries living in communities throughout the U.S.
