Help, my student doesn't understand anything!

Whether your student has studied English for ten weeks or ten years, coming to America and trying to communicate can be very difficult. People speak much more quickly than what they are used to from their English class at home. They will use expressions that are not in their textbooks. We speak slang and not proper English, which is most likely what they have learned. Maybe they are using pronunciation unique to that region of the country.

A very natural reaction when they are surrounded by a foreign language is to forget every word that they have ever learned. Don't worry!!!!! They will start to remember as soon as they relax in your new home. Give them time to adjust and keep a sense of humor.

We've collected a list of proven study tips. We've even had them translated in Spanish and Portuguese with more to come.

This is to help them at school which can be a huge struggle for a few months, but will become very easy with a little patience and effort by them. Just encourage your new son or daughter to keep trying and they will be fine.
