In 1999, Landon Carter Schmitt studied abroad with CIEE in Hanoi, Vietnam. While there he discovered a country and a culture that would impact the next 10 years of his life. Landon died in 2009 in Vietnam. He was 28.
To meet Landon’s parents is to meet two people who have faced the worst that life can throw at you. They are impressive people. They are determined that their boy’s love for Vietnam and its people will continue. As part of his legacy they have started the Landon Carter Schmitt Memorial Fund. Their initial effort will raise $200,000 in order to build a school in Dong Ha, Vietnam, for children with visual disabilities. CIEE has contributed to this fund.
