The USA High School Program brings over 1300 High School students from 55 different countries, each year to this country to live with volunteer families. CIEE’s mission is to help people gain understanding, acquire knowledge and develop skills for living in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse world. We are accomplishing our mission through diverse programs such as our High School Exchange.
Summary:
CIEE's host families are as different as its students and can be with or without children as well as single adults. But one thing that unites all of them is a strong sense for the importance of cross-cultural understanding in today's world. They are curious, open-minded, loving and willing to help a young student to adjust in a new environment.
Requirements:
- Welcome a student into your home as a family member.
- Provide the student with a single bed, either sharing the room with a child of the same gender and approximate age, or having a single bedroom. A quiet place for study must also be available.
- Provide meals with the exception of lunches on school days.
- Provide your student with necessary transportation or assisting in arranging alternate transportation i.e. a bike, car pool, etc. to and from school
- CIEE's students will have their own spending money for the duration of their stay as well as medical insurance.

Study Abroad Advisor

Summary of Position:
The Study Abroad Advisor (SAA), based in the CIEE Portland office, has primary responsibilities for meeting and exceeding enrollment targets for study abroad programs in the assigned region. The SAA is responsible for proactive outreach and conversion of inquiries, applicants and accepted program participants. In addition, the SAA is responsible for contributing to strategic student and campus outreach efforts to grow student participation in CIEE study abroad programs.
The SAA advises prospective students, reviews study abroad program applications and makes decisions regarding acceptance to CIEE study abroad programs.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Meet or exceed enrollment targets by maximizing the conversion of applicants to paid participants during the inquiry, application and predeparture process
- Execute strategies to inform students about CIEE programs at all phases of the inquiry and application process, and to improve student retention
- Provide superior customer service throughout the admissions and predeparture process
- Process applications efficiently and accept students to CIEE programs
- Initiate regular, proactive and timely contact with inquirers, applicants, participants, parents, and study abroad advisors throughout the entirety of the enrollment cycle with the goal of increasing program enrollments
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of each program and proactively discuss components (academics, housing, etc.) of each program with applicants
- Ensure the integrity of participant data in the database systems
- Assist in editing pre-departure materials, visa instructions and other information delivered to participants upon acceptance to a CIEE program.
- Work with Program Management and Institutional Relations to contribute to program team efforts in recruitment, marketing and program development for the region.
- Participate in outreach to university study abroad offices in support of program marketing efforts
- Serve as back-up contact when other advisors are out of the office
- At all times, exercise good judgment and consideration in addressing problems and questions that arise with students, parents and CIEE staff

Accountability
The Study Abroad Advisor is accountable for:
- Converting applicants to paid participants
- Implementing strategies to turn student inquiries into completed applications, and to increase student retention
- Responding in a timely manner to all questions, issues, problems, and/or needs of the students, parents, study abroad advisors, resident staff and CIEE Portland Staff related to the job duties as outlined.

Knowledge & Skill Requirements:
- Education - Bachelor’s degree required.
- Work Experience – 1-2 years of work experience in a sales and/or customer service oriented field. Demonstrated interest in education abroad or higher education is preferred.
- Experience Abroad - Personal study or living abroad experience is required.
- Sales – Demonstrated success in achieving sales or enrollment targets strongly preferred.
- Customer Service - Must have strong service skills and the ability to resolve issues fairly and expediently. Must be able to exude empathy and control over the phone and in email.

Summary of Position:
CIEE is seeking a qualified professional to serve as a High School Regional Recruitment Consultant for Oregon, Alaska, Idaho, and Montana. Based out of a home field office, the HSRRC will be responsible for program development in designated communities from the ground up. This development requires recruitment and training of Local Coordinators and host families for the placement of incoming international High School students, as well as targeted school recruitment.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Maintain and develop new high school relationships for the exchange program in designated states.

Summary of Position:
As a valued member of the company’s IT Project Management Office (PMO) based in the CIEE Portland office, this person is responsible for the organization and delivery of application-based projects originating from the IT Steering Committees, chaired by IT Business Consultants (ITBCs). Applying CIEE’s own project management methodology and PMI-based best practices, this person will act as an IT PMO “partner” with the ITBCs (who themselves act as project IT champions) to establish and personally manage projects toward successful completion.
This person will immediately assume the lead CIEE project management role with a Salesforce implementation already underway and work in concert with the Salesforce system integration partner’s project manager and technical team.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Ensure on-time, on-budget and quality delivery of application-based projects in collaboration with project sponsors, project champions, project teams, and other stakeholders.
- Assemble project plans and teamwork assignments, direct and monitor work efforts on a daily basis, identify resource needs, perform quality reviews, and escalate functional, quality, and timeline issues appropriately.
- Ensure project documentation is complete and communicated (e.g. project charter, scope statement, project schedule, project budget, project calendar, issues matrix, weekly status reports, etc.)
- Track, manage, and control project milestones, activities, and resources.
- Use, develop and improve upon the existing CIEE IT PMO project management methodology.
- Provide IT Leadership and project teams with advice and input on tasks throughout the project, including documentation, issues management, risk management, and the creation of plans, schedules and reports.
- Resolve conflicts within the project and across dependent projects between resources, schedules, budgets, priorities, etc.
- Influence business and IT stakeholders and team members in order to get buy-in on decisions that will lead to the success of critical projects.

Knowledge & Skill Requirements:

Summary of Position:
The Senior Coordinator, Custom and Faculty Led Programs reports to the Director of Custom and Faculty Led and Programs to provide high quality custom programs for U.S. colleges and universities. The Senior Coordinator will join an existing team of two Senior Coordinators. S/he will be responsible for meeting and exceeding annual sales goals for Custom and Faculty Led programs and participants. S/he will work directly with faculty and study abroad administrators at US institutions on every aspect of the program: sales, operations, pricing, administrative processes and delivery of Custom Programs to ensure that the needs of schools, CIEE resident staff and the programs are met.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Meet aggressive sales goals for program and participant numbers
- Conduct research and outreach to secure new program leads
- Maintain tracking systems and reports for all inquiries and requests
- Conduct strategic campus visits to key schools to promote programs
- Attend industry conferences (NAFSA, Forum, CIEE…) to sell and promote CIEE Custom and Faculty Led programs
- Collaborate with IFDS team to gather CFL leads and supply IFDS leads
- Collaborate with IR team to gather CLF leads and supply Study leads

Operations:
- Collaborate with Resident Staff to create location-specific menus of program services and costs, proposals and itineraries
- Create program budgets
- Maintain close contact with client during bidding process to win bid
- Run internal processes for CFL programs in collaboration with Enrollment, Finance, Billing and other teams.
- Collect and manage all documents from schools
- Coordinate pre-departure and post-program services for schools in collaboration with resident staff (pre-departure packets, OPDO, evaluations)
- Facilitate information sharing between schools and resident staff
- Assist with the creation of training materials and manuals for resident staff
- Assist with the creation of forms and documents for vetting and proposing custom programs
- Assist with special projects and other tasks as necessary to ensure smooth operation of Custom Programs

Summary of Position:

Summary of Position:
The Communications Manager is responsible for all internal and external communication and media/public relations activity. The Communications Manager will help create communication and media plans, implement communication activities for CIEE and its business units, edit all communications pieces whether created by the Manager or by others, track and analyze performance while ensuring that the overall branding and strategic objectives of the organization and its businesses are met.

Summary of Position:
The Registration Coordinator (RC) is primarily responsible for providing excellent customer service to study abroad students, as well as their home school faculty and study abroad advisors, in regard to all aspects of course registration and grades processes for CIEE Study Abroad programs. Additionally, the RC is accountable for efficient processing of student grade reports, tracking progress of course registration and grades-related processes, development of CIEE Academic Record Guides, training of overseas staff on grades and registration-related procedures, and maintaining the Course Catalog and all Courses-related data, as related to an assigned portfolio of programs. The RC also manages all incoming requests for syllabi, and maintains the CIEE syllabus website.
This position is part of a team of Registration Coordinators who work closely with CIEE Study Abroad Advisors, and many other CIEE departments including; Academic Affairs, Program Management (both in Portland and overseas), Institutional Relations, Customized Programs, and Customer Service.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Serve as primary resource for CIEE Portland staff, CIEE overseas staff, program participants, and sending institutions about all Registration and Grades matters
- Ensure the integrity of all Course-related data and participant grade reports in the database
- Ensure accuracy and conformity of final course and grade reporting, and timely mailing of students’ CIEE Academic Records at the end of each term
- Regular, timely, and accurate reporting of grades and registration processing statuses, and releases of held grades
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of the academic structure for each program, particularly as related to academic policies, course credits and grade conversions

Summary of Position:
The Client Services Coordinator, serving as the primary point of contact for overseas clients from over 65 countries, is responsible for answering all inquires and resolving operational issues relevant to the Work & Travel USA and Intern/Trainee programs. This may include periodic client training, application status updates, invoicing/payment tracking, database related inquiries, DS-2019 issuance/reprints, financial reconciliations, participant status in the U.S., and other issues as they arise. The position works closely with the Partner Sales team, Enrollment team, Intern/Trainee team, and Employer Services team, in addition to serving as a liaison for other departments within CIEE.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide superior customer service to global clients, answering inquiries and troubleshooting problems related to systems, program regulations, financial statements, hiring events, and other is sues as they arise.

Summary of Position:
The Assistant Director (AD) works together with the Center Director (CD), Student Services Manager, Chinese Language Director and program coordinators to guarantee the highest levels of program quality and customer satisfaction at the CIEE Study Center at East China Normal University in Shanghai, China. The AD is responsible for ensuring effective management of the center’s programs, including International Faculty Development Seminars, Custom Faculty Led Programs and Gap Year Abroad, as well service learning, community engagement, internships, Shanghai municipal government cultural bridge projects, and off-campus extracurricular activities.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Academic: Coordinate educational excursions for all CIEE Shanghai programs; assist Center Director (CD) with management of CIEE Shanghai academic programs, teach the Seminar on Living and Learning (SLL) in Shanghai (depending on qualifications)

Summary of Position:
The USA HS Placement Coordinator will work closely with Program Director on facilitating logistical components of the placement process for High School Exchange students.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the writing descriptions and facilitating distribution of students for placement.
- Work with compliance team and finance team to ensure timely payments to the field.

Summary of Position:
CIEE is seeking a qualified professional to serve as a High School Regional recruitment Consultant in Western Texas. Based in Texas, the HSRRC will be responsible for program development in designated communities from the ground up. Summary of Position:
Annually, the USAHS Program facilitates participation of 1,400 exchange students from around the world in cultural exchange while attending American high schools and living with host families across the US. This position is a part of the Operations Team which is responsible for completing all duties associated with the USA High School foreign exchange student application process. This includes: management of all student files for both current and incoming students; processing home stay placements and communicating application details as well as placement status updates to International Partners; and working with the Events team to facilitate student arrival orientations.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Receive and review student applications and track status.
- Maintain student files, which include, but are not limited to, keeping a detailed account of missing pieces until applications are complete.
- Manage the database for incoming and current students.
- Process placements and moves throughout the year, and track necessary paperwork associated with placements.
- Act as office liaison between the Regional Directors and International Agents.
- Assist with content planning and implementation of annual programs; including national meetings, international meetings and student orientations.

About the USA High School Program
The CIEE USA High School program hosts more than 55 nationalities represented in a group of over 1,300 international students each year acting as ambassadors for their home countries. Students arrive in the United States with dreams of immersing themselves in the American culture through living with a host family and participating in local clubs, sports, arts, music, and other activities. They return to their native country with improved English skills, a sense of independence and self-confidence, growth in their maturity, and a better global understanding.
Summary of Position:
The High School Plus Account manager will concentrate on the sales and distribution of CIEE’s High School Plus Program. In any given year, this role will work with an Overseas Representative network of over 30 agents in over 25 countries to recruit participants for the High School Plus Program. The Account Manager will function as the main liaison for annual partnership agreements, training, sales numbers, program marketing and development, and overall service delivery. In addition, the Account Manager will assist the Director in the achievement of annual High School Plus product sales goals and long-term business development objectives for the product through the direct management of existing accounts, as well as the identification and development of new accounts.

- Research, identify and develop new market opportunities for the High School Plus Program.

Summary of Position:
The Academic Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning (ADCTL) develops and facilitates effective teaching, learning and assessment practices in international education programs through a variety of strategies across all CIEE credit, non-credit, research and professional development programs. Summary of Position:
The Vice President of Academic Affairs reports to the Chief Operating Officer – Study Abroad and collaborates with the Program Management team to provide academic leadership in the delivery of CIEE programs. The VP of Academic Affairs is the senior academic executive at CIEE, and provides progressive leadership in all areas of CIEE academic programming. He/she is responsible for academic programs, teaching, research, field-based service learning and other matters related to academic programs. The VP of Academic Affairs helps shape the strategic direction of programs, supervises the implementation of that strategy, develops clear outcome measures and builds a worldwide team of exemplary leaders to sustain a complex and ever-changing landscape of international education. - Work collaboratively with the Program Management Team and the CIEE Academic Consortium Board in the creation, evaluation and improvement of academic programs.
- Manage each academic program component, including partnerships with foreign institutions, recruiting and retaining faculty and staff, establishing clear standards of teaching and learning, and establishing outcome measures for program quality
- Manage all elements of the classroom experience, including curricular development and delivery at CIEE Study Centers including training and supervision of faculty teaching CIEE courses; involvement in program evaluation and implementation of any curricular changes that result
- Develop a comprehensive statement for CIEE academic objectives as well as corresponding statements for each CIEE program
- Develop and implement appropriate training programs for domestic and international staff.
- Manage CIEE’s strategy for integrating intercultural learning into all CIEE programs.
Academic Research:
- Work with CIEE member institutions and related entities in international education to shape and implement a meaningful research agenda in the field

- Work with faculty and staff in each study center to develop robust community service opportunities consistent with CIEE’s corporate social platform

Internationalization

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
- Masters degree required; Ph.D. in a Social Science, Humanities, Intercultural Relations or related discipline; or an Ed.D. in Education preferred
- 10-15 years of related professional experience required
- 5-10 years of hands-on managerial experience in study abroad, international education exchange or related not for profit institutional setting
- Significant higher education experience with demonstrated success supervising faculty or staff.
- Extensive experience in studying, teaching, and/or conducting research abroad.
- Experience with developing and managing programming in diverse regions of the world and with diverse themes.
- Demonstrated proficiency (ACTFL scale) in a second language.
- Familiarity with current tools and trends in educational technology and knowledge of learning management systems preferred.

Summary of Position:
The Director of Admissions and Enrollment reports to the Vice President of Institutional Relations and Development, and collaborates closely with the Director of Institutional Relations, Director of Student Services, Senior Program Director and Director of Finance to provide a best-in-field admission and enrollment experience for students interested in CIEE programming for US undergraduates.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver the highest quality, most relevant and most timely information to students who wish to participate in CIEE undergraduate study abroad programs.
- Drive growth in enrollments of CIEE programming for US undergraduates.
- Drive growth in student inquiries via direct-to-student outreach and marketing.
- Implement a high volume, high conversion admissions experience for all prospective students.
- Implement plans to leverage scholarship and grant aid to achieve both enrollment growth and access goals.
- Lead a performance-based, motivated admissions and enrollment staff that provide the highest level of customer satisfaction in the field.
- Create metrics and measure staff and business progress, and develop data and analyses to drive decision making.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.
- 4-5 years managing a primarily phone-based admissions or sales team.

Summary of Position:
The Senior Manager, Institutional Relations has responsibility for ensuring the success and growth of a four person sales team while functioning as the primary CIEE contact for two institutional partners. The Senior Manager along with the Director will execute the strategic sales vision, ensuring that our Study Centers receive their targeted number of applications and ensuring that all sending institutions in their teams region receive innovative and excellent customer service. The position is focused on relationship management, sales, customer service, management and leadership so success will be based on you and your team’s ability to maintain and increase applications, retain and grow the membership of CIEE’s Academic Consortium, and maintain high customer satisfaction.
Primary Responsibilities:
The Senior Manager, Institutional Relations has many duties and in any given day you will be:
- Leading the sales process through direct supervision of your 4 direct reports
- Hire, supervise and evaluate the performance of the team
- Lead periodic meetings and trainings of staff with the Director
- Coach and support team in dealing with important client issues
- Manage employee budgets and performance
- Develop relationships with key CIEE members
- Create, execute, and achieve sales plans to meet goals for growth in enrollments, number of institutions affiliated with CIEE, and programs approved by institutions for both your team and your individual institutions. These plans may contain initiatives such as:
- Direct outreach to multiple departments at institutions by phone, email and in-person visits
- Participation in industry conferences
- Participation in student-facing Study Abroad fairs
- Arranging customer visits to our study abroad centers
- Arranging visits of CIEE staff to institutions
- Fully integrate CIEE’s broader portfolio of program offerings (iNext, CAI, IFDS, Customized, IFDS) into the sales process

Regional Director of Operations-Asia

Summary of Position:
The Regional Director of Operations has overall business management responsibility for a set of CIEE Study Centers in a particular region of the world, requiring the delivery of high-quality programming, logistics and related services.
The Regional Director of Operations (RDO) oversees the administration of study abroad programs in his/her region and works closely with other managers to deliver faculty and other special programs (Teach, GAP, IFDS and customized) at the CIEE Study Centers. The RDO achieves objectives through the supervision and management of resident staff as well as through strong collaboration with other business units at CIEE that directly impact successful delivery – Academic Affairs, Enrollment, Institutional Relations, Finance, Marketing, Human Resources, Information Technology, and Participant Services.
The RDO plays an integral role in the overall management of CIEE Study Centers while contributing in all key areas of business and financial management, as well as development and strategic planning. This position requires the use of superior judgment and the ability to make key decisions relative to (but not exclusive of) policy, timing, and implementation in all areas of responsibility. Additionally the RDO must continually, (and often immediately) apply sound judgment and knowledge to the expedient resolution of a broad range of issues relative to (but not exclusive of) individual students, Study Center staff, emergencies, and the like.
Primary Responsibilities:
Program Delivery & Onsite Students
- Oversee the delivery of high quality academic programs
- Oversee the delivery of high quality co-curricular program components including cultural activities, and community engagement
- Oversee the delivery of high quality housing and student services
Human Resources Management
- Recruiting, developing and retaining resident staff
- Day-to-day management of resident directors
- Making and assisting with termination decisions regarding resident staff
- Oversee performance management process for resident staff
- Oversee conversion to and usage of UltiPro Human Resources database system
- Train resident staff on an on-going basis and help with planning of group resident staff trainings
- Understand and adhere to local labor laws
- Vacation approval and recordkeeping
- Create and maintain specific content for each location/region for overseas employee manual
Finance
- Train resident staff on new financial systems
- Build annual program and capital expenditure budgets in consultation with Resident Directors and Portland-based management team.
- Monitor Study Center financial performance on a monthly basis
- Work with resident staff on negotiation of local host university financial protocols and fees and facility leases and other agreements.
- Establish and oversee financial controls protocols
- Oversee cash flow management with Finance Department
- Responsibility for Study Center margins
Legalization Issues
- Help coordinate and lead on-going management of CIEE legal entities in each location and determine best legal structure for each (ie: review current legal structure) for existing and new operations
- Lead overall legalization efforts in locations in which a new or different legal entity structure is required
- Oversee legal issues pertaining to site
Host Institution Relations
- Work closely with Resident Director to negotiate agreements/maintain relationships with host institutions in each location.
- Annual update of financial agreements with local partners
Facilities & Equipment
- Ensure leases are up-to-date for all CIEE program facilities.
- Ensure Study Center equipment meets CIEE standards (computers, audio visual equipment, etc.)
- Responsible for physical space (office/building) for each Study Center in region
- Maintain all documentation related to program facilities and equipment
- Manage IT infrastructure needs
Safety Protocols & Risk management
- Manage effective and expedient response to all health, safety, and security incidents
- Work closely with Portland management team and resident staff on monitoring and mitigation of local risks, including possible political disruptions and natural disasters
- Communicate with stakeholders as necessary in response to individual or group incidents
Administrative
- Oversee syllabi process to ensure they follow CIEE format and are submitted in a timely manner
- Review student evaluations and make recommendations
- Collect and review annual Resident Director reports and follow up
- Write Critical Components Review (CCRs) reports for Senior Program Directors and Academic Consortium Board
- Manage and resolve administrative issues/problems related to Study Centers
- Manage high level interaction with parents and administrators as necessary
Marketing
- Work closely with Portland management team, Institutional Relations, and Marketing to develop strategy for increasing enrollment at new or under-enrolled study centers.
- Ensure CIEE brand is well-represented at site
- Ensure all regional programs are well-represented in CIEE marketing materials
- Review print and web text on a regular basis ad communicate necessary changes to marketing team
Program Development
- Participate in program development as directed
Knowledge & Skill Requirements:
- Business experience – seasoned professional with 8-10 years minimum work experience with five years of that in hands on managerial experience in study abroad, international educational exchange, or a related higher education institutional setting
- Budgeting and financial analysis – Proven experience developing and managing budgets
- Seasoned leadership skills – Proven ability to lead a team through the complexities and challenges of a broad range of operational, programmatic, and student affairs issues
- People management – proven ability to be an extremely strong people manager and be able to accomplish challenging objectives and goals through others
