The USA High School Program brings over 1300 High School students from 55 different countries, each year to this country to live with volunteer families. Summary:
CIEE's host families are as different as its students and can be with or without children as well as single adults. But one thing that unites all of them is a strong sense for the importance of cross-cultural understanding in today's world. They are curious, open-minded, loving and willing to help a young student to adjust in a new environment.
Requirements:
- Welcome a student into your home as a family member.
- Provide the student with a single bed, either sharing the room with a child of the same gender and approximate age, or having a single bedroom. A quiet place for study must also be available.
- Provide meals with the exception of lunches on school days.
- Provide your student with necessary transportation or assisting in arranging alternate transportation i.e. a bike, car pool, etc. to and from school

Contract Opportunity Gap Year Abroad Program Coordinator, Tokyo, Japan
Reports To: Manager, High School & Gap Year Abroad Programs

Summary of Position:
CIEE is seeking a qualified professional to serve as the Program Coordinator for our GAP Year participants in Tokyo, Japan. This is an independent contractor position and is not expected to be full time. This opportunity has the potential to be a long-term contract position.
Supported by CIEE Portland, the Coordinator is the primary in-country contact for the program participants from the time they leave their homes in the U.S. through their semester or year in Japan. In addition to weekly meetings with the participants to touch base and hear about their Homestay and language study, the Coordinator is responsible for providing guidance and logistical support to the participants as they explore personal interests and pursue volunteer opportunities.
Position Objectives:
- To support the growth and development of CIEE Gap Year participants.
- To provide initial and ongoing orientation, especially to ensure participants’ health, safety, language development, and cultural understanding.
- To support participation in additional language practice, cultural opportunities, and volunteer activities
- Additionally, to initiate and develop organizational relationships, as directed by CIEE, to realize objectives for the Gap Year Abroad program in Japan. This may entail working with language schools, cultural institutions, and organizations providing volunteer placements.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Communication with participants before arrival in Tokyo. Meet participants at Narita Airport and escort them to Intercultural Institute of Japan or to accommodation.
- Develop and deliver an initial and ongoing orientation program, making all arrangements as needed.
- Assist participants with initial banking, cell phone, calling card, and Internet service arrangements. Ensure that participants are familiar with their commutation route and use of their train pass/Suica card. Develop referral resources for routine health care needs.
- Develop and deliver a 1x per week, not-for-credit course designed to enhance participants’ knowledge of Japan, Japanese culture, and the city of Tokyo. Course activities should be chosen to motivate participants to visit and experience many aspects of Japanese living while further developing their Japanese language ability.
- During weekly class meetings, monitor the quality of participants’ experience, making suggestions for additional activities as appropriate.
- Document significant communication, and complete and submit a progress report at least once in the first month of the program and at least three times total during the program.
- Communicate and implement the discipline process as necessary.
- Supplement 24-hour emergency support system provided by Intercultural Institute of Japan and CIEE’s established 24-hour emergency support system in the US. Communicate emergency support procedures to participants, Intercultural Institute of Japan, and CIEE.
- Seek to develop organizational relationships leading to regular volunteer placements for participants.
Knowledge & Skill Requirements:
- English speaker based in Tokyo, with significant international living/study abroad experience.
- Relevant educational and/or teaching experience.
- Familiar with, and sensitive to, the developmental needs of older, American adolescents.
- Appreciation for Japanese culture and knowledge of opportunities and experiences which could enhance participants’ time in Tokyo.

Contract Opportunity - Gap Year Abroad Adjunct Faculty Position, Shanghai, China
Reports To: Manager, High School & Gap Year Abroad Programs

Summary of Position:
This adjunct faculty member is an independent contractor responsible for developing and teaching a not-for-credit course for CIEE Gap Year Abroad participants. This position reports to the Gap Year Abroad Programs Manager, Portland and coordinates with Portland and Shanghai program staff. This opportunity has the potential to be a long-term contract position.
Core Course Objectives:
- To facilitate students’ greater understanding of the history and culture of China, with an emphasis on Shanghai.
- To facilitate students’ reflection on the objectives, outcomes, and significance of their Gap Year Abroad experience.
- To motivate students’ participation in independent language practice and cultural activities.
- To participate in the established Study Center emergency support system as required.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver a not-for-credit course, including syllabus, readings, assignments, and field trips, designed to enhance participants’ knowledge of the host country and city. Course activities should be chosen to motivate participants to experience many aspects of the local way of life, while further developing their host country language ability. The core course meets for 1.5 hours per week, for 15 weeks per semester. (Spring 2012: February 9-May 27; Fall 2012: August 30-December 16).
- Develop and deliver a three to four day excursion designed to complement course material and extend participants’ knowledge and understanding of the host country, culture, and language. One or more Shanghai local staff will provide logistical support, depending on group size.
- Monitor the quality of participants’ experience during regular class meetings, making suggestions for additional independent activities as appropriate. Promote participant morale and good behavior. Confer with individual participants or participant groups as necessary. Maintain regular office hours or other means of availability for participant contact.
- Facilitate publication of student newsletters each semester to update families on Gap Year academic and extracurricular activities. Support the designated participant blogger in coordination with Portland program staff.
- Manage grade reports for the core course and language course when required.
- Develop and update all program information for promotional materials, including student handbook, orientation materials, and other pre-departure materials.
- Oversee reporting costs and submitting receipts to the local Finance Manager. Coordinate with Program Manager, Portland.
Knowledge & Skill Requirements:
- English speaker with significant international living experience, including familiarity with Shanghai.
- Mandarin Chinese language ability strongly preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree strongly preferred. Relevant educational experience.
- Familiar with and sensitive to the developmental needs of older adolescents.

Program Coordinator, High School Operations and Scholarship Programs

The Program Coordinator works as part of the High School Operations and Scholarship Programs Team to complete the day-to-day responsibilities and assist with the overall administrative processes of the FLEX, YES, A-SMYLE and CBYX programs.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Responsible for maintaining students’ files and program databases
- Assist Operations Manager, USAHS Program Director, and Regional Directors in student placement process – answer inquiries, provide student data, track placements
- Work with Director of Operations and Scholarship Programs on completing all Grant Programs Program Monitoring and Compliance requirements as called for by the US Department of State
- Plan and implement annual High School Grants Local Coordinator training

Manager, iNext
Reports To: General Manager, Gateway Programs

Summary of Position:
The Manager of the iNext team has management responsibility for the iNext insurance programs. The Manager oversees the development, marketing, sales, enrollment, and operations of this 5 person department. The Manager achieves objectives through personal work product and successful coordination of activities among direct-report staff, CIEE overseas staff, and other CIEE departments such as accounting, marketing, IT, CIEE business units and third party partners. The department is growing, and is focused heavily on acquiring new accounts.
Primary Responsibilities
- Support General Manager, Gateway Programs in the setting of program objectives.
- Develop and implement strategies to achieve program objectives.
- Devise and implement a yearly plan that includes tactics and deliverables in the areas of program development, marketing, sales, enrollment, operations, program/process evaluation and resources required to achieve goals. Revisit and update the plan as required.
- Develop budgets to achieve program objectives. Ensure that financial goals are met, including the monitoring of sales and financial performance on a monthly basis.
- Write sales and marketing plans to meet strategic sales targets using in-house sales staff to call on universities and colleges.
- Manage a sales team and personally manage a sales territory.
- Identify opportunities for new and improved insurance products, based on feedback from sales process. Act as project manager for development of enhancements to the web-based enrollment system.

Enrollment Coordinator, USA High School Operations

Summary of Position:
Responsible for completing all duties associated with the USA High School foreign exchange student application process. This includes management of all student files for both current and incoming students. Responsible for processing home stay placements and communicating application details as well as placement status updates with Overseas Representatives. Able to work effectively across program teams.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Receive and review student applications and track status.
- Maintain student files, which include, but are not limited to, keeping a detailed account of missing pieces until applications are complete.
- Manage the database for incoming and current students.
- Process placements and assignments throughout the placement season.
- Process moves as needed when students change homes throughout the year.
- Act as office liaison between the Regional Directors and International Agents.

Summary of Position:
The Program Associate reports to the Executive Vice President, Study Abroad, and provides on-going support to the four regional Program Directors who are in charge of the 58+ CIEE Study Centers around the world. The Program Associate is responsible for delivering administrative support, facilitating processes that cross regions, and for assisting with special projects that arise throughout the year.
The ideal candidate is a mature individual, with excellent organizational skills, superior writing ability, discretion, a flexible attitude, and solid “people” skills.
The position includes but is not limited to the responsibilities described and is subject to change.
Primary Responsibilities:
Support to the Program Directors
- Provide administrative support Program Directors.
- Assist Program Directors with responding to low/intermediate level customer issues (parents, students, advisors)
- Facilitate communication between Study Centers and schools/parents when student issues and incidents occur that require on-going updates
- Provide emergency back-up when Program Directors are on vacation, out of the office, or unreachable
- Review student evaluation reports each cycle (within one month of end of programs) and bring negative evaluations to the Program Director
- Provide program development support including research, syllabi gathering, sending institution profile development, logistics, and costs

Program Administrator, Study Abroad

Summary of Position:
The Programs Administrator (PA), CIEE Study Centers, assists the Executive Vice President, Study Abroad, and four regional Program Directors who are in charge of the 58+ CIEE Study Centers around the world. The PA is the primary logistical liaison between CIEE and the CIEE Academic Consortium Board (ACB) related to meetings, program evaluations, program monitoring, and a number of other on-going processes. This position is responsible for orchestrating a variety of projects that relate specifically to the efficient operations of CIEE Study Center programs. S/he is also responsible for a number of administrative duties that support not only the Program Management team, but also the U.S. Institutional Relations and Marketing Departments within the home office.
The ideal candidate is a mature individual, with excellent organizational skills, superior writing ability, discretion, a flexible attitude, solid “people” skills, and who is comfortable with dealing with an elite group of board members.

Primary Responsibilities:
Liaison with the CIEE Academic Consortium Board (the “ACB”)
- Serve as the primary logistics liaison between staff and the ACB. Ensure that the ACB Roster and distribution lists are up-to-date.
- Plan logistics for twice yearly ACB meetings including hotel and travel arrangements, meeting space, meeting materials preparation and distribution, meals, reimbursements and VIP activities. The ACB Executive Committee, the ACB Nominating Committee, and ad hoc ACB Committees may also require meeting logistics.
- Take minutes at the ACB meetings. Devise and maintain on-line systems for storing ACB meeting documents (historical and founding documents, minutes, rosters, etc.) on a continuing basis. The ACB has a closed website.
- Work with CIEE Executive Vice President on nominations and election process for the ACB.
- Work with Program Directors on ACB site evaluations (estimated, 8–10 evaluations per year) by organizing/preparing pre-departure evaluation materials, assisting with travel arrangements for team members, facilitating reimbursements for team members, and sending thank you notes to the team member’s institution.

Summary
The Account Executive is responsible for generating new institutional partnerships within the assigned territory in order to meet the designated sales quota for the iNext travel insurance program. Business Analyst

Summary of Position:
The CIEE software development staff is responsible for building exciting, innovative, usable, and fun-to-use, web based applications in Silverlight. Although the vast majority of our users are students applying for or on an educational or cultural exchange program, our primary users are colleagues sitting next to us in our Portland office or in one of our study centers located all over the world. This offers us a unique experience of having direct access to our “customers” and in some cases world travel.
The primary responsibility of the Business Analyst will be to work with requirements, functional specifications and wireframes completing by an existing Senior Business Analysts/Product Manager team to deliver a ready for development Silverlight based user interface design. The CIEE software development team operates in an Agile environment and the BA is required to deliver designs, prototypes and accompanied functional specifications at the beginning of each sprint.
The BA is also responsible for working with the engineering team to ensure the requirements, specifications and user interfaces are correctly implemented and/or updated when needed during the development process.
CIEE has a very experienced software development staff and we know what we need to ensure that our existing projects are successful ones. Our product managers need assistances working with the development team on UI design and guaranteeing that business requirements are met in the final product. Our development staff needs assistances implementing and delivering exciting and innovative Silverlight user interfaces.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Leads design activities, such as: define high-level design goals and constraints; create narrative description and diagrams of the intended design approach; present options for page layout; style; branding; color; use of images and other media types.

Each year, nearly 4000 foreign university students and young professionals come to the US on CIEE’s Internship USA and Professional Career Training USA programs. These participants spend their time in the US in structured training programs with Host Organizations. The Director, Internship USA / Professional Career Training USA will oversee all aspects of these programs. The Director will oversee dedicated staff to promote and grow the programs; steward relationships with employers, agents and universities; ensure high levels of service and customer satisfaction; and ensure adherence to Department of State regulations and CIEE policies.

- Develop strategies for growing the number of applicants who source their own positions and qualified applicants for CIEE positions
