The USA High School Program brings over 1300 High School students from 55 different countries, each year to this country to live with volunteer families. CIEE’s mission is to help people gain understanding, acquire knowledge and develop skills for living in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse world. We are accomplishing our mission through diverse programs such as our High School Exchange.
Summary:
CIEE's host families are as different as its students and can be with or without children as well as single adults. But one thing that unites all of them is a strong sense for the importance of cross-cultural understanding in today's world. They are curious, open-minded, loving and willing to help a young student to adjust in a new environment.
Requirements:
- Welcome a student into your home as a family member.
- Provide the student with a single bed, either sharing the room with a child of the same gender and approximate age, or having a single bedroom. A quiet place for study must also be available.
- Provide meals with the exception of lunches on school days.
- Provide your student with necessary transportation or assisting in arranging alternate transportation i.e. a bike, car pool, etc. to and from school
- CIEE's students will have their own spending money for the duration of their stay as well as medical insurance.

Summary of Position:
The Work & Travel USA program was designed to provide foreign University students with an opportunity to live and work in the United States during their summer vacation from college or university to experience and to be exposed to the people and way of life in the United States.
The International Recruitment Coordinator will focus on maintaining relationships with employers who hire participants traveling on the Work & Travel USA program. The International Recruitment Coordinator will work as a team with the International Recruitment Consultants who source and secure job opportunities for international participants. The International Recruitment Coordinator will be responsible for data management, communications with employers, recruiting on behalf of employers, and will take part in job fairs overseas. This position requires flexibility, professionalism and incredible attention to detail.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Customer service – Provide superior customer service to employers, answering inquiries and troubleshooting problems related to systems, hiring events, student incidents, and other issues as they arise.
- Provide periodic training to clients on new processes, rules and regulations, and student in-country activities.
- Data management – Track employer details using CIEE’s Customer Relationship Management system, update and maintain accurate data records before and after hiring events.
- Hiring Events Preparation – Produce and quality control hiring event documents; manage deadlines and communicate these to CIEE’s Work Exchange teams; train CIEE recruiters hiring on behalf of employers on employer expectations and job details; assist in the production of materials to market our overseas hiring events.
- Recruiting - Attend international job fairs to interview and hire students on behalf of employers.
- Project Management and Support – Manage team projects as assigned; liaise and communicate with other teams to reach project goal.
- Travel – This role involves both domestic and international travel. International travel may total an estimated 20% of the year and domestic travel may be around 5%.
- Handle the 24-hour Emergency Cell Phone on a rotating weekly basis approximately 3-5 times a year.

Summary of Position:
The Compliance Coordinator is part of the Compliance Team, focusing on the review and vetting of Independently-sourced employers for Summer Work/Travel participants. The Compliance Team is part of the Participant Services Department. It is a fast-paced, high-volume environment. The Compliance Coordinator's primary responsibility is to process job applications for the inbound Work and Travel USA program, which requires data entry of applications, online research and verification of employers, and conducting phone interviews with employers. S/he will work closely with other departments to ensure timely confirmation and approval of Independently-sourced jobs and CIEE’s compliance with regulations as a J-1 visa sponsor. All applicants should be detail-oriented, able to multi-task, and have great organizational skills.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Screen employers, review job applications, and verify employment details
- Perform data entry to update and maintain information in CIEE employer database
- Call employers to screen job applications, answer phone calls, and respond to emails
- Answer questions regarding processes from Work & Travel USA employers and other CIEE departments

Summary of Position:
The Support Coordinator provides assistance and support for all CIEE’s J-1 exchange programs as well as CIEE’s International Study programs. In addition, the individual in this role will be responsible for the support and administration of specific programs based on their language skills and the needs of CIEE participants.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Advise students on how to solve problems or concerns around employment, assists them in understanding the cultural nuances of living and working in the United States
- Maintain cases and manage your individual incidents in a timely and effective manner
- Maintain regular contact with all High School program participants to support their successful completion of the USA High School program
- Be a resource for all CIEE Customer Service Representatives, Client Services Staff and Employer Services Staff
- Manage and research, as needed, in developing materials or editing materials for the programs. Ensure that website content is accurate and work with the communications team with any updates
- Counsel program participants with culture shock as well as and other emotional, mental, and health disorders. Monitor participants that are at-risk
- Responsible for handling the 24-hour Emergency Cell Phone on a rotating weekly basis approximately 4-6 times a year
- Present and train High School students attending Home Country Orientations prior to arrival to the United States
- Update the Department of State contact regarding any ongoing serious cases involving Trainee and Work and Travel participants
- Work with and guide field staff for the High School program in the USA
- Be a point of contact for international High School partner agents. Communicate individual student’s progress throughout the year long exchange program
- Travel to various places in the US and abroad. Willingness to travel to unconventional locations in the US and internationally

Summary of Position:
The CIEE Uppsala Resident Director is responsible for the quality and success of programs offered at the CIEE Study Center in Uppsala, Sweden. The position is responsible for coordinating all aspects of in-country operations as well as for long-range planning, program evaluation, and development. The Resident Director is responsible for ensuring the highest levels of program quality and customer satisfaction. This individual must live full-time in Uppsala in order to oversee the program.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Academics: oversee and coordinate the academic program in cooperation with the Uppsala University faculty and staff, advise students on course selection prior to the beginning of each semester, organize course registration activities and monitor changes in enrollment in coordination with staff at Uppsala University, submit final registration to CIEE registrar in a timely manner, prepare student grade reports and send promptly to Portland at the conclusion of the program, service as the first point of contact for any students requests for special academic exceptions, complaints, appeal etc.
- Student Services: hold regular and well publicized office hours, confer with individual students as necessary and hold regular group meetings, plan and implement all aspects of services (visas and other legal procedures that apply to students, plan and implement pre-departure orientation, airport pick-up and program orientation, cross-cultural information and training, program excursions and field trips, volunteer projects housing, cultural and social activities, facilities (library, computer access etc.), personal counseling and student morale and culture shock, medical and psychological problems, legal matters , conflict resolution and discipline,
- Health and Safety: monitor events in community related to health and safety risks, write annual safety audit covering health and safety information for participants, parents and sending schools, secure appropriate medical and professional services, maintain open communication among program sponsors and other who need to know of serious medical problems or injuries, develop and maintain emergency preparedness processes and crisis response plan, communicate to participants applicable codes of conduct and take appropriate action when they are in violation
- Program Evaluation: manage the student evaluation processes after the orientation and at the conclusion of the program, including both evaluations of the program as a whole and of individual courses, help facilitate the visits of sending institution and evaluation teams (providing information, coordinating their schedules, establishing appropriate local contacts, setting up group and/or individual meetings with students), write a Resident Director report at the conclusion of each academic year.
- Program Management: manage all aspects of the program in accordance with CIEE policies and agreements, manage relationship with host institution (Uppsala University), participate in the formulation of the annual budget, manage program finances, pay invoices, monitor budgeted spending and submit monthly expense reports to the Portland office, coordinate the housing program (Uppsala University Residence halls) and ensure that all necessary payments are made in a timely fashion
- Marketing: participate in the writing of program materials (promotional materials, catalogue copy, bulletins, handbooks, arrival information, orientation information, pre-departure reading list, course syllabi, curriculum vitae of teachers, information concerning the country, the locate and the host institution)
- Other: assist as needed in the development and implementation of an International Faculty Development Seminar, new CIEE programs, including customized programs, a session at the CIEE Annual Conference, or at other professional meetings, other duties as assigned.
Knowledge & Skill Requirements:
- Master’s degree required
- Fluency in Swedish and English (both written and verbal)
- Knowledge of Swedish culture, history, business practices, and academic environment
- Professional work experience in an international education-related position
- Familiarity with U.S. higher education and direct experience with U.S. college and university students

Summary of Position:
The High School Plus Program Coordinator will form partnerships with new private schools throughout the country as well as expand our overseas partner network. The position requires someone who is confident speaking to school administrators and representing CIEE in a professional and knowledgeable manner. Working with the placements team in identifying desirable schools and locations as well as maintaining up-to-date information about current schools will be essential for successful growth of the program. In order to assist the Director, the High School Plus Program Coordinator may be required to travel domestically or internationally to meet with schools or overseas recruitment partners. There will also be a considerable amount of time spent tracking finances directly related to the program.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Keep up-to-date with partner school prices, statistics, ratings, student openings, special programs, sports, and activities
- Compile and organize lists of potential new partner schools to contact
- Track and manage finances related to tuitions, commissions, stipends and overall program spending
- Respond to inquiries about the USA High School Plus program
- Assist Director with partner school vetting process by visiting partner schools
- Attend conferences to network and promote the USA High School Plus Program and foster on-going relationships with principals, teachers, counselors and district administrators
- Assist Director in adhering to deadlines for student applications
- Continually update and improve the application process in order to streamline this process
- Assist Director with on-going web and print updates

Summary of Position:
The Registration Coordinators (RCs) are primarily responsible for providing excellent customer service to study abroad students, as well as their home school faculty and study abroad advisors, in regard to all aspects of course registration and grades processes for CIEE Study Abroad programs. Additionally, the RC is accountable for efficient processing of student grade reports, tracking progress of course registration and grades-related processes, development of CIEE Academic Record Guides, training of overseas staff on grades and registration-related procedures, and maintaining the Course Catalog and all Courses-related data, as related to an assigned portfolio of programs. The RC also manages all incoming requests for syllabi, and maintains the CIEE syllabus website.
This position is part of a team of Registration Coordinators who work closely with CIEE Study Abroad Advisors, and many other CIEE departments including; Academic Affairs, Program Management (both in Portland and overseas), Institutional Relations, Customized Programs, and Customer Service. Primary Responsibilities:

Summary of Position

Summary of Position:
The Manager, Institutional Relations-Development, serves as the primary liaison between CIEE and institutions of higher education not currently affiliated with the Study Abroad division of CIEE, in a designated region. The positions primary functions include establishing and developing relationships with advisors, faculty and administrators of unaffiliated institutions and recruiting students from these institutions to attend CIEE programs. This position reports to a Senior Manager, Institutional Relations and may require significant domestic travel during the high seasons (September-November and February-April).
Primary Responsibilities:
- Establish and develop relationships with study abroad office staff, faculty and others at non-CIEE member institutions
- Prospect, call on, and close new accounts. Using consultative sales techniques, develop relationships with study abroad office staff, faculty and others to promote CIEE membership and programs
- Meet individual and team goals for new members and students who attend our programs. Other goals may be assigned from time to time. These goals are both seasonal and annual. Goals and targets are evaluated and adjusted on a routine basis
- Function as CIEE contact for new or lapsed institutions in a region using regular personal, phone and email interaction. Hours may be uneven and fall outside of the typical 9-5 range, particularly for contact with prospective students

Summary of Position:
The Senior Manager, Institutional Relations has responsibility for ensuring the success and growth of a four person sales team while functioning as the primary CIEE contact for two institutional partners. The Senior Manager along with the Director will execute the strategic sales vision, ensuring that our Study Centers receive their targeted number of applications and ensuring that all sending institutions in their teams region receive innovative and excellent customer service. Your team of four includes: 4 field-based, Institutional Relations Managers
The position is focused on relationship management, sales, customer service, management and leadership so success will be based on you and your team’s ability to maintain and increase applications, retain and grow the membership of CIEE’s Academic Consortium, and maintain high customer satisfaction.
Primary Responsibilities:
The Senior Manager, Institutional Relations has many duties and in any given day you will be:
- Leading the sales process through direct supervision of your 4 direct reports
- Hire, supervise and evaluate the performance of the team
- Lead periodic meetings and trainings of staff with the Director
- Coach and support team in dealing with important client issues
- Manage employee budgets and performance
- Develop relationships with key CIEE members
- Create, execute, and achieve sales plans to meet goals for growth in enrollments, number of institutions affiliated with CIEE, and programs approved by institutions for both your team and your individual institutions. These plans may contain initiatives such as:
- Direct outreach to multiple departments at institutions by phone, email and in-person visits
- Participation in industry conferences
- Participation in student-facing Study Abroad fairs
- Arranging customer visits to our study abroad centers
- Arranging visits of CIEE staff to institutions
- Fully integrate CIEE’s broader portfolio of program offerings (iNext, CAI, IFDS, Customized, IFDS) into the sales process
- Primarily domestic travel, approximately 25% of the time
- Performing other duties as required

Knowledge & Skill Requirements:
- Minimum 3 years of proven sales team management experience including management of staff, budgets, and client relationships
- Proven ability to meet sales targets
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to lead a staff to achieve its goals and objectives
- Excellent administrative and organization skills with the ability to effectively coordinate a large variety of activities

Network Engineer

Summary of Position:
The Network Engineer is responsible for designing, installing, maintaining and supporting LAN, WAN and VoIP infrastructures. She/he will provide high-level technical support for voice and data network systems, create and maintain network documentation, maintain hardware and software standards, and complete projects as needed in order to upgrade to new and/or improved communication equipment and procedures. In addition, the Network Engineer must be well versed with the advanced engineering and administration of multiprotocol routers, multilayer switches, network security devices and network management systems.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Install, upgrade, and ongoing support of Windows servers
- Supervise the administration of systems and servers to ensure availability of services to authorized users
- Troubleshoot malfunctions of network hardware and software applications, telephones and security systems to resolve operational issues and restore services
- Monitor network resources to include Network Security, System Utilization and Backup Utilization
- DNS, DHCP configuration and support
- Develop and conduct proactive maintenance activities designed to ensure optimal operation of the network
- Provide leadership during network incidents and ensure that service is restored as quickly as possible, escalating when required, ensuring the entire business is up to date on networks status
- Provide network hardware and licensing purchasing recommendations
- Troubleshoot and support Server and PC technical problems (Hardware & Software)
- Define and implement practices and procedures related to network administration; backups, escalation procedures, etc…
- Manage all network documentation and ensure that all documents and network diagrams are up to date and available for all relevant IT Staff

Knowledge & Skill Requirements:
- 7-10 years experience implementing and administrating network devices, setting and maintaining policies and rights/security within a Windows Server environment
- Advanced knowledge of network performance, hardware and software
- Ability to serve as a resource to others in the resolution of highly complex problems
- Ability to consistently apply broad knowledge of network administration to the diagnoses and resolution of network problems
- Expert understanding of the fundamentals of telecommunication; installations, upgrades, techniques, tools, materials and equipment(routers, switches, frame relay, etc)

Information Technology
We are a team of dedicated designers, developers, QA engineers, and product managers who are mission-driven. We are passionate about cultural exchange as well as software design and development. CIEE is going mobile and HTML5 while building a RESTful service layer to expose our data and workflows to whatever UIs our design team can dream up. Summary of Position:
The Software Engineer, Support and Maintenance is a junior position designed to introduce the right candidate to the CIEE development methodology and system landscape. This position will be responsible for second-level technical support, bug fixes, and small improvements to our mission-critical systems. This individual will work with first-level support to identify, debug, and fix data issues and application bugs. He/she will also be required to implement small enhancements and system changes. Additionally, the position should constantly be challenged to define areas that will benefit from automation and/or process improvement. In the future the individual in this position could be evaluated for transition to the project level development team based on performance and potential availability of a new position on the software development team.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Debug technical support issues
- Resolve technical support issues by manually updating data
- Fix bugs
- Implement small system enhancements and changes
- Evaluate/audit operational applications as requested, and recommend any improvements that could be made.
- Perform program design and development activities as required
Knowledge & Skill Requirements:
- 2 years of experience with SQL and RDBMS, ideally SQL Server
- 2 years experience with object oriented languages, ideally C#.NET
- Professional experience with ASP.NET, Entity Framework, Silverlight, WCF and WCF Data Services
- Experience with ASP.NET MVC and AngularJS desired.
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services stand-alone reports and Report Builder models

Summary of Position:
CIEE is seeking an experience Information Technology Senior Manager to serve as its PMO Director, IT. This is an exceptional opportunity for an innovative, proven IT leader to join the IT leadership team of CIEE’s Chief Information Officer.
The PMO Director, IT will report directly to the CIO and work closely with the IT leadership team and business management areas ensuring proper prioritization and implementation of PMO methodology, policies and procedures. He/she will establish, manage, promote and govern PMO methods and procedures applied toward multiple IT-based project management activities within CIEE.
The PMO Director role will drive standardized but scalable project management processes to increase project success, provide status reporting at Corporate level, and assist with resource allocation across all the IT Departments. Practical, “hands-on” experience with international project deployments and a deep understanding of project management disciplines, project prioritization, and coordination is required.
A strong candidate will be a self-disciplined Senior Project Manager with very capable PM training & mentoring skills, a proven international project track record, willingness to travel, and aspirations toward directing a PMO.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Establish and Institutionalize a Project Management methodology within the IT department to ensure all projects follow established standards and best practices; all in pursuit of on-time delivery, staying within budget, and meeting strategic and business requirements
- Manage multiple Projects as required
- Mentor IT personnel (and consultants) providing them guidance and leadership with complex and cross-functional technology projects
- Communicate project health status that should include an executive summary to CIEE’s IT Management Team and appropriate Stakeholders
- Actively lead an eventual PMO Platform deployment where necessary (MS Project Server and Portfolio Server), centralizing all PMO-governed projects in a way to better indicate project health (dashboards), manage resources, track issues and change requests, and initially lead the PMO toward program and portfolio management
- Manage and coach a team of project managers ensuring their PMO-governed projects are underway
- Ensure that projects have well-defined project managers, project champions, and project sponsors
- Evaluate project risks and mitigation plans
- Participate (if not facilitate) in Close-Out meetings (lessons learned) and project status & metric reviews
- Assist the CIO with creating basic financial management tools including CapEx and OpEx project budgets and descriptions (h/w, s/w, consulting, internal labor), and other related financial information
- Review budget proposals, and recommend subsequent budget changes where necessary
- Share PM best practices through informal communication channels and/or formal training sessions
- Perform other PMO duties as directed by the CIO
Knowledge & Skill Requirements:
- Minimum of 15 years progressive information technology experience in a highly competitive corporate environment, managing multiple multi-million dollar projects required
- Knowledge and experience in a multi-cultural international environment required
- Experience in developing and deploying project best practices, policies, procedures and processes
- Strong change management and negotiation skills with ability to work within a matrix-run organization
- Experience with negotiating and managing 3rd party vendor/consultants and integrating them as part of project team activities

Primary Responsibilities:

The Talent Acquisition Manager will be a strategic leader in the planning, design, management and execution of all domestic and international recruiting activities.

Primary Responsibilities:
ADMINISTRATION:
- The Administrative Director is responsible for the day-to-day administrative functions, such as on-site course enrollment and host university registration, administrative calendar and class scheduling, data collection and processing of student attendance and grade reports, educational fieldtrips and site visits, internship program and service learning projects, customized programs, student learning outcome assessment, Online Pre-Departure Orientation, on-site orientation, monthly program meetings, campus and community engagement, extra-curricular activities.
PROGRAM MANAGEMENT:
- Assist the Center Director (CD) to manage all aspects of program logistics in accordance with CIEE policies and relevant agreements
- Establish an evaluation mechanism to measure student learning outcomes
- Meet weekly with the CD in private and/or as part of regular managerial meetings to report on progress and challenges
- Assist the CD to coordinate the summer International Faculty Development Seminar (IFDS) in Shanghai
- Assist the CD to coordinate customized programs, summer internship programs and other ad hoc programs
- Manage student course registration and send promptly to the CD within two weeks following the first day of classes each term for approval; collect course grade reports and process student grade reports and send to the CD within two weeks following the conclusion of the program for approval; ensure that student grade reports are consistent with faculty course grade reports and that grade explanation forms are provided when necessary
- Plan, coordinate and lead all co-curricular activities related to area studies courses and the weekend and weeklong fieldtrips
- Provide assistance to the CD to coordinate Service Learning projects that engage students in experiential learning with local communities as an integrated aspect of courses and programs, and administer regular student learning assessment
- Attend planning meetings with the CD, Chinese Language Director, Manager of Student Services and other relevant staff prior to each semester and ongoing during the year to ensure program goals are met and that planned activities and excursions effectively support these goals
- Maintain the Study Center library and expand its collection to support the programs and courses on offer
- Work with students to provide logistical support for undergraduate research projects and student service learning conferences
PROGRAM EVALUATION:
- Work together with the CD to design and revise observable and measurable program learning goals and be responsible for managing internal evaluations designed to ensure program goals are met
- Study and provide comments on internal and CIEE student program evaluations and Academic Consortium Board (ACB) evaluations; assist the CD to facilitate visits from the ACB evaluation teams with logistical arrangements and participate in the formulation of an action plan based on their recommendations
- Write commentary for all components of all programs and work with the CD to write the annual program reports
STUDENT SERVICES:
- Communicate promptly with the CD any student academic difficulties, health problems, discipline issues, attendance problems, or unauthorized absence from the program site
- Collaborate with the Manager of Student Services to facilitate most aspects of program services, such as scheduling academic meetings, course registration, and student advising for the CD during on-site orientation, and required monthly program meetings
- Communicate promptly to the CD any concerns related to student academic learning, and attendance
STAFF MANAGEMENT:
- Collaborate with the Chinese Language Director and the Manager of Student Services to support program logistics and activities
- Supervise the Academic Affairs Coordinator to manage all program related affairs, including data collection, class scheduling, course materials, classroom reservation, academic handbooks, student and faculty evaluations, class fieldtrips, library services, reading materials for weeklong and weekend field trips, and other logistical service support as needed
- Meet with the Academic Affairs Coordinator for weekly planning and ongoing performance management
- Conduct staff annual performance assessment and report to the CD
MARKETING:
- Participate in the writing of program materials (program catalog copy, bulletins, handbooks, pre-departure materials, course syllabi, faculty curriculum vitae, etc.)
- Assist the CD to present the program to individual site visitors from prospective sending intuitions and to members of the CIEE consortium, and help host any CIEE group site visits, and ACB program evaluators as needed
- Collaborate with the Manager of Student Services to draft weekly and monthly newsletters sent to CIEE stakeholders
OTHER:
- Support the development and implementation of various new program proposals in-line with CIEE’s strategic goals
- Strong understanding of the governance mechanisms of CIEE and the roles and contributions of the ACB and its committees; and
ACCOUNTABILITY:
The Administrative Director is also accountable for:
- Vigilant monitoring of program standards and integrity;
- Other duties as assigned
- Maintaining the CIEE commitment to providing and preserving a safe and supportive environment for students and employees where individual ideas and uniqueness are recognized, valued, and given the opportunity to grow.
JUDGEMENT, DECISION-MAKING AND PLANNING:
- The Administrative Director must be able to continually and often immediately apply sound judgment and knowledge to the expedient resolution of a broad range of issues relative to but not exclusive of individual students, including emergencies, and the like.
CONFIDENTIALITY:
The Administrative Director has access to confidential information regarding:
- organizational changes and strategic initiatives;
- budget information pertaining to the program;
- employee salary information and personnel files;
- student personal, financial, physical and mental health records; and
- student academic progress and performance.
The individual in this position must be able to simultaneously balance confidential information and information that can be/needs to be shared in order to effectively solve a variety of different issues. The individual must show superior judgment when dealing with confidential information.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- This is a full-time and year-around position, with administrative responsibilities during fall, spring and summer terms.
- Office hours are from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, five days per week, but may require emergency response 24 hours/day, any day of the week.
- This position requires travel 10-20% of the year, including domestic fieldtrips with students and possible international travel for institutional visits, conferences, and general meetings.
Knowledge, Experience and Skills Requirements:
- Master’s degree required
- Native or near-native communication skills in English and Mandarin Chinese
- Seasoned professional with at least 5 years managerial experience in study abroad, international education exchange, or related not-for-profit organization
- Previous experience studying abroad or working in China, in-depth knowledge of Chinese culture and society, and first-hand knowledge of U.S. and Chinese academic institutions and their culture
- Exceptional organizational skills and proven experience developing, implementing, and managing projects and processes
- Superior written and verbal communication skills in English

Alumni Summer Internship 2013
You've studied abroad with our organization, now come be a part of it!
The alumni internship program identifies a cohort of exceptional CIEE alumni – who have participated in a CIEE study program – to serve as paid interns at our Portland office or CIEE Study Center for 9 weeks between June and August 2013.
Summer Interns are appointed to an engaging and challenging project that has a high impact on both the students’ professional skill set and ultimately CIEE’s family of programs. These projects include: research, web design; social media; communications; market research; business planning; program assessment; or new program development.
The summer internship program also deeply supports our partnership with colleges and universities by providing professional mentoring and reflective group activities that have specifically developed to further cultivate the professional skills of students following their experience abroad. Interns will learn how to work effectively in an intercultural setting through one-on-one mentoring and a weekly seminar that involves reflective discussion and ways students should leverage their study abroad experience in an intentional and thoughtful manner throughout their career.

Summary of Position:
The Regional Director of Operations has overall business management responsibility for a set of CIEE Study Centers in a particular region of the world, requiring the delivery of high-quality programming, logistics and related services.
The Regional Director of Operations (RDO) oversees the administration of study abroad programs in his/her region and works closely with other managers to deliver faculty and other special programs (Teach, GAP, IFDS and customized) at the CIEE Study Centers. The RDO achieves objectives through the supervision and management of resident staff as well as through strong collaboration with other business units at CIEE that directly impact successful delivery – Academic Affairs, Enrollment, Institutional Relations, Finance, Marketing, Human Resources, Information Technology, and Participant Services.
The RDO plays an integral role in the overall management of CIEE Study Centers while contributing in all key areas of business and financial management, as well as development and strategic planning. This position requires the use of superior judgment and the ability to make key decisions relative to (but not exclusive of) policy, timing, and implementation in all areas of responsibility. Additionally the RDO must continually, (and often immediately) apply sound judgment and knowledge to the expedient resolution of a broad range of issues relative to (but not exclusive of) individual students, Study Center staff, emergencies, and the like.
Primary Responsibilities:
Program Delivery & Onsite Students
- Oversee the delivery of high quality academic programs
- Oversee the delivery of high quality co-curricular program components including cultural activities, and community engagement

Human Resources Management
- Recruiting, developing and retaining resident staff
- Day-to-day management of resident directors
- Making and assisting with termination decisions regarding resident staff

Legalization Issues
- Help coordinate and lead on-going management of CIEE legal entities in each location and determine best legal structure for each (ie: review current legal structure) for existing and new operations
- Lead overall legalization efforts in locations in which a new or different legal entity structure is required
- Oversee legal issues pertaining to site
Host Institution Relations
- Work closely with Resident Director to negotiate agreements/maintain relationships with host institutions in each location.
- Annual update of financial agreements with local partners
Facilities & Equipment
- Ensure leases are up-to-date for all CIEE program facilities.
- Ensure Study Center equipment meets CIEE standards (computers, audio visual equipment, etc.)
- Responsible for physical space (office/building) for each Study Center in region
- Maintain all documentation related to program facilities and equipment
- Manage IT infrastructure needs
Safety Protocols & Risk management
- Manage effective and expedient response to all health, safety, and security incidents
- Work closely with Portland management team and resident staff on monitoring and mitigation of local risks, including possible political disruptions and natural disasters
- Communicate with stakeholders as necessary in response to individual or group incidents
Administrative
- Oversee syllabi process to ensure they follow CIEE format and are submitted in a timely manner

- Familiarity with U.S. higher education and direct experience working with U.S. college and university students
- In-depth knowledge of Batswana culture, history, business practices, and academic environment
- Fluency in English, written and oral. Abilities in Setswana in preferred
- Willingness and ability to live full-time (12 months per year) in Botswana. Preference will be given to candidates who are currently legal residents in Botswana.
- Integrity—Must be a role model for professionalism and commitment to company values and stated goals. Must exhibit such professionalism both internally (for all employees) and externally (for students, parents, faculty, and industry partners).
***The Resident Director is expected to be on call for emergency circumstances 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Occasional travel is expected on occasion.
