About CIEE

Established in 1947, The Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) is a world-leader in international exchange services. Each year we help nearly 50,000 students and young professionals grow and develop their potential through participation in a wide variety of work and study programs.

As an organization, CIEE is membership-based and a non-profit. Our membership is comprised of nearly 300 academic institutions – largely US-based – which help to set the tone and direction for CIEE programs.

CIEE operates both in- and outbound programs to and from the US and maintains a leading role within each respective sector:

Inbound: With a focus on the J category of the Exchange Visitor Program, CIEE supports more than 40,000 participants annually on three different programs – High School, Work & Travel USA and Intern/Trainee. CIEE is the largest program sponsor in both the Work & Travel USA and Intern/Trainee categories.

Outbound:As the largest provider of study abroad programs for US students, CIEE supports nearly 5,000 participants each year and offers over 100 programs through its study centers in roughly 35 countries worldwide.
