A Year with Janken

By Bynum Family

What a year! And that is said in the best of ways. Nancy and I hosted a young lady from Germany and it turned out to be a wonderful decision to do so. It was a little bit tough in the beginning trying to get her situated and work through her "new to the scene" emotions, but it didn't take long for the experience to bloom into adventure and fun for all.

We were constantly on the move trying our best to give Janken an experience she would never forget. We visited Disney World, hiked mountains, went caving, traveled to many cities, had snowball fights, boating, picnics, museums, beaches, touring, the list just goes on and on.

One special day, it was arranged for Janken to go up with a stunt pilot in a rare WWII bi-plane and she was put through the works. She absolutely loved it! This whole experience has been for the best. We are a family without children and for 10 months, we got to have all the joy that goes along with having a child in the home. Christmas, Halloween...ALL of the holidays were just a little more special this year. We still have two months to go and we all look forward to seeing what kind of adventure lies around the next corner. Thank you, CIEE, for such a wonderful opportunity!
