Responsibilities
CIEE Local Coordinators work with four diverse communities-host families, exchange students, their local community, and host schools. For CIEE, Local Coordinators are one of our most important tools, as they are at the center of the exchange process-giving the experience personal and local support that is invaluable for all parties involved.
Click on the below circles for an introduction to how CIEE Local Coordinators work within the CIEE network:

Local Coordinator Responsibilities
The Local Coordinator recruits host families for USA High School students. The Local Coordinator also interviews and screens the host families by guiding them through the online application process. They match a student to the host family, and give orientations to families who are going to host. Local Coordinators support and meet with host families throughout the time that they are hosting
The Local Coordinator establishes contact with local high schools that are willing to enroll CIEE USA High School students, and familiarizes him/herself with school policies regarding exchange student enrollment. They provide student applications to the school for documentation and they secure written permission for the student to attend. The Local Coordinator regularly contacts schools where CIEE students attend to monitor students’ progress and academic performance. They maintain a relationship with school administration in order to foster a mutually beneficial educational experience for both the CIEE student and the community’s student body.
The Local Coordinator matches a student to an approved host family. They correspond with arriving students and meet them upon arrival, helping them get oriented to their community. The Local Coordinator meets regularly with the student throughout their exchange to provide support and guidance and documents contact with students and their families.
The Local Coordinator represents the USA High School program through advertising, public relations, and networking in order to raise awareness of the opportunity for cultural exchange. They encourage students to participate and volunteer within the community during their stay, and act as an ambassador of the community to the students.
