Rules

line

CIEE has established a number of program rules to encourage exchange students to adjust well as members of both their U.S. host family and host high school community. CIEE selects students based on academic and English ability, maturity, and motivation. Our rules set clear guidelines for students regarding academic expectations, host family participation, and personal health and safety.

CIEE works with students to help in adjustment matters, both academic and social. In situations where students violate program rules, CIEE follows a disciplinary process that includes providing policy reminders and letters of encouragement, warning letters, probation letters, and dismissals in rare cases when we feel that the student has demonstrated a persistent and significant lack of maturity, poor judgment, lack of responsibility, or effort. Such cases are rare, and CIEE makes every effort to assist participants to enjoy a successful learning and growing experience here in the U.S.

If a teacher or school administrator has any concerns regarding a student’s performance, behavior, or academic abilities, we encourage the school to contact the local coordinator or the CIEE office, and we will be happy to assist.
