Grade Level Placement
It is up to each individual host school to decide what grade level the student is placed in. Many students leave their country expecting to be placed in a certain grade, so we encourage schools to work with the Local Coordinators and students to establish which grade level is appropriate for the student to attend.
Grades Standards & Course Choices
CIEE program rules require students to receive a C+ or higher in all classes at the host high school. We understand that students may have some difficulty, particularly at the beginning of the year, when they are adjusting to differences in curriculum, instruction style, as well as the language barrier. If a student is struggling academically, it is important for the host high school to be in contact as soon as possible with the host family, Local Coordinator, or CIEE main office Support Team to discuss any concerns. Once we are aware of a problem, we can assist in helping the student understand what is expected of him or her, and provide resources to assist the student if needed.
