Academic Expectations
CIEE takes the academic success of our students seriously and we make it our goal to select high quality students for our program.
We evaluate each student’s motivation for the program, academic history, and English ability, so that each student can have a productive and successful experience at their host school.
Academic Admittance Expectations
You can expect the following of all CIEE students:
- Students must submit school transcripts for the current and three previous academic years. CIEE translates their course grade into the U.S. grading system. These records must indicate a grade point average of 2.33 on a scale of 4.0 (C+) or better. Students cannot have failed a year of school. Grades that have recently dropped adversely affect eligibility and placement.
- Students must have studied English in an academic environment-a school or a language school-for a minimum of three years. Students cannot have failed a year of English in the last three years at school.
- Students must understand and speak English and are administered a Standard English test prior to their application. The recommended test is the SLEP and a score of 38 or higher is required. We also accept the Michigan Test with a score of 63 or higher.
We feel it is important to give you, as a host school, resources to help you stay informed. Please explore the following sections for more details at to our expectations. If we have left a question unanswered, please contact your Local Coordinator or the CIEE Support Team.
