About CIEE High School Programs
For nearly 20 years, CIEE: Council on International Educational Exchange has been offering high school students from around the world the opportunity to live and study in the United States. CIEE USA High School has grown from a handful of participants when the program was founded in 1995, to more than 1,600 students, representing 55 countries. We place them with caring, nurturing families in communities from coast to coast, where they attend one of more than 1,000 partner schools.
CIEE USA High School programs carry on the CIEE mission that began in 1947:
To help people gain understanding, acquire knowledge and develop skills for living in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse world.
We firmly believe that a 21st century education should include cultural exchange. Participating in exchange, whether a student or a host, exposes people to new viewpoints, breaking down barriers and increasing understanding. These are the building blocks of a better world.
Today, CIEE is the global leader in international education and cultural exchange, and CIEE USA High School is just one of our many programs. More than 300,000 people proudly call themselves CIEE alumni. We give students from high school through college the chance to study abroad, send English teachers around the world, welcome students to the United States for school and work, and support educators as they work to globalize their institutions from classroom to curriculum.
Going Abroad with CIEE
In addition to bringing students to the United States, CIEE also makes it possible for American high school students to live and learn in another country with all-inclusive semester, summer, and gap year programs. USA High School host families get a 10% discount on CIEE programs, with our thanks for their contributions to international exchange.
There are three programs for American high school students:
High School Summer Abroad
These dynamic short-term programs are for high school students who want to acquire language skills, immerse themselves in another culture, or invest their time in community service.
High School Abroad
The counterpart to CIEE USA High School, this program gives American students the opportunity to travel to one of 11 countries, live with a carefully selected host family, and attend school for a semester or an entire year.
Gap Year Abroad
This program gives students a chance to pause between high school and college, see the world, and gain valuable life experiences. Participants gain maturity and begin the transition to independence while building language skills and cultural awareness through classroom work and community service.
