A Day in the Life

YOUR CLASSES

Your coursework at the Leadership Academy involves daily group work and a weekly seminar on leadership. Under the guidance of your Program Leader and with the support of your peers, you’ll work to learn more about yourself, define your values and goals, analyze the work of other successful young leaders, and reflect upon your daily experiences in the field.

SERVICE

Take the theory you’ve learned and the skills you’ve acquired in the classroom and put them to use. Each day you’ll engage in meaningful volunteering that’s driven by the needs of your host community. Whether you’re teaching English, helping run a summer camp for underprivileged children, or lending a hand in a local gardening project, service projects are relevant and truly enrich the lives of others.

EXCHANGE

In addition to your service work and homestay, you’ll participate in a number of cultural activities that bring local traditions and customs to life. You’ll take part in excursions to sites of cultural, historical, and environmental significance and enjoy a week-long, post-program tour to explore a new area of the country and celebrate with your fellow participants. In many locations, local peers join you for cultural activities offering additional perspectives, insight, and opportunities for exchange

YOUR NEW COMMUNITY

From your service project to group activities, each day with the Leadership Academy brings you opportunities to meet new people and discover new places. In most locations, local students join you during volunteering and for cultural activities, adding an element of peer-to-peer exchange. If you’re living with a host family, you’ll have access to an amazing resource for cultural insight and exchange. You begin each morning engaging with them and join them around the dinner table each night—after a day of volunteering and cultural activities—to share a meal and news about your day.
