Program Leaders
At the heart of the CIEE Leadership Academy is the Program Leader, the first point of contact for our participants during their time abroad. With training in safety and leadership, as well as a proficiency in the local language and knowledge of the city and local culture, Program Leaders are mentors, teachers, counselors, and guides.
Their role is to facilitate the intercultural and experiential programs from which participants will gain understanding, acquire knowledge, and develop skills to live, and excel, in a culturally diverse world.
They will do this by:
- Providing a safe environment for students to serve, explore, and learn
- Immersing the students in the culture of the host country through service, homestays (where available), cultural activities and field trips, and a week-long excursion
- Exploring the concepts and skills that will help participants learn how to build cultural bridges and be effective leaders
- Facilitating dialogue and personal reflection
- Introducing participants to various aspects of the host culture through hands-on experiences, lectures, and exchanges
