Safety & Support
Our foremost concern as an organization is the welfare of the students on our programs. You can feel confident that CIEE, with our 65 years of experience, is committed to offering healthy and safe study experiences.
CIEE's approach to health and safety is fourfold:
- CIEE conducts a careful safety evaluation of every program it runs
- We provide comprehensive and realistic information to prospective applicants so that they can make the most informed decisions about whether or not a program is right for them.
- When students arrive on site, CIEE conducts a thorough orientation that includes tips on reducing risk and handling difficult situations.
- Program staff continuously monitor local conditions in order to provide guidance to participants throughout their stay.
While in-country, we offer students and parents support through our CIEE support team, local staff, host families, and Program Leaders. Program Leaders are guides and mentors with an intimate knowledge of the host city and local culture. They work in tandem with CIEE Resident Directors to ensure participant safety, provide emotional support, and address any issues as needed. Program Leaders serve as the primary contact for students from the time of their departure through their return to the U.S.
Additionally, the support department at our headquarters in Portland, Maine, is on call 24/7 to provide students and parents with emergency support and resolve any issues that may arise.
