A Day in the Life
Your host family
At the center of the high school abroad experience is your host family. You begin each day engaging and interacting with them, putting your language skills to use the moment you wake. After a day of classes, enjoying extracurricular activities, or exploring the city with your friends, you join them around the dinner table, sharing a meal and news about your day.
Your classes
During the week, you take classes—taught in the native language—at a local high school. Studying alongside local students challenges and dramatically strengthens your language skills, builds friendships, and offers you new perspectives you’ll bring home with you.
After school
Your experience on a CIEE High School Abroad program is what you make of it. Seek out and sign up for a club, join a team, or volunteer—after school opportunities are as varied as your interests. Outside of the school day, you'll spend time with your friends, make new ones, and immerse yourself in the community while positively contributing to it.
Becoming part of a new community
In your free time, you make this once foreign place your own. You help your host family shop for food at the local market, meet friends at your favorite spot, or discover a new one. As you settle into the routine of daily life, you find that you’re no longer a tourist or visitor, but a member of a new community.
