About CIEE

CIEE is the leading U.S. non-governmental international education organization. CIEE creates and administers programs that allow high school and university students and educators to study, volunteer, work and teach abroad. CIEE's mission is to help people gain understanding, acquire knowledge and develop skills for living in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse world.

Into the chilly postwar world of 1947, CIEE launched the next generation of study abroad programs, the first since they'd been suspended during World War II. Senators and scholars worried about how to increase international understanding and establish trust between nations. As soon as there was enough capacity aboard trans-Atlantic ships to carry students, CIEE programs began.

Among many activities, CIEE administers 60 study abroad programs in over 30 host countries, 800 volunteer projects in 30 host countries, work programs in Australia, Canada, Ireland and New Zealand and teaching programs in China and Thailand.

Every one of our U.S. specialists has studied or lived abroad. They can advise you how to choose a program that fits your needs. Our overseas staff members will help with any problem -- academic or personal.

We approach our tasks aware of the great responsibility we are given to help mold tomorrow's citizens in a complex and fast-changing world.

CIEE is designated by the US Department of State as a sponsor of Work & Travel, Trainee and Secondary Student programs.
