A Year of Discovery and Learning
The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Program has been helping prepare ambitious young people like you for a global future since 1983. This unique program provides 250 scholarships for American high school students to live with a host family and attend school in Germany for a year. As a Congress-Bundestag student, you'll gain an invaluable perspective on German social, political, economic, and cultural life. Whether or not you've studied German before, your language skills will excel, giving you the lifelong asset of fluency in a second language. As a Congress-Bundestag scholarship winner you will experience German life first hand. You'll live with a carefully selected host family who has volunteered to open their home and heart to you, providing room, board and a caring environment. As a member of your host community, you'll attend school, participate in community life, culture and recreation while learning more than you ever imagined about the world, its diversity, and mostly, about yourself.

A World of Opportunity
Living abroad, you'll be immersed in a new culture and surroundings every day. Your new friends and host family will help you adjust to a different lifestyle, school and community. With the support of your host family, you will have an unparalleled opportunity to develop new interests and let your curiosity take you in new directions. You'll discover your independence and build your self-confidence as you learn to find your way in a new environment. At the same time, you'll have the opportunity to give back by sharing your own culture and perspective. Whether you're sharing your favorite music, debunking American stereotypes or exchanging views on world events, you'll represent the US in the best possible way just by being yourself. The objective of the Congress-Bundestag Program is to offer this unique opportunity to the group of ambitious students that best represents the diversity of the United States. The program stresses equality and accessibility; students from all racial, ethnic, economic, religious and social backgrounds are encouraged to apply as are students with disabilities.

Go For It!
Do you have the drive and interest to immerse yourself in all that a new school and culture can offer? Do you want to prepare yourself for career and life choices you haven't yet imagined? If your answer is yes, the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Program is right for you. Finalists are selected based on many criteria, so it doesn't matter where you live, how little German you speak, or how popular you are. What does matter is your flexibility, curiosity, maturity and desire to share yourself while you learn from others.
