CIEE is currently seeking qualified faculty to teach at the CIEE Study Center in Shanghai in the Spring 2010 and 2010-2011 academic year.

Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE), is a nonprofit, nongovernmental organization dedicated to helping people gain understanding, acquire knowledge, and develop skills for living in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse world. Founded in 1947, CIEE has developed a wide variety of programs and services primarily for students and teachers at secondary through university levels. In 2005, CIEE also became a legally recognized nonprofit in China.

Requirements
Each course meets for total of 45 hours each term in a period of 14-16 weeks. All faculty will be expected to take part in some program activities and lead 2-4 local excursions as part of each course.

SALARY/BENEFITS:

CIEE's host families are as different as its students and can be with or without children as well as single adults. Requirements:

Visiting Professor - Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Reports To: Resident Director, CIEE Study Center

Location: Phnom Penh, Cambodia

The Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) and Pannasastra University of Cambodia (PUC) are seeking to fill a joint appointment for a Visiting Professor to teach in Phnom Penh, Cambodia from 15 November, 2009 to 31 July, 2010.

Requirements:

The successful candidate will offer an intensive, 45-hour CIEE course during the fall term (five weeks in November-December), the spring term (five weeks in April-May) and the summer term (five to six weeks in June-July), respectively.  The fall and spring courses will be on the topic “Nation Building in Cambodia after the Khmer Rouge.”  The summer course may be on the same topic, or another topic in Cambodian Studies.  Students in these CIEE courses will include US-based undergraduates enrolled in the CIEE Study Abroad Program and selected Cambodian graduate students and advanced undergraduates. Over the course of the appointment period, the candidate will also offer two to three additional lecture, seminar, or directed research courses at PUC in a related area of the social sciences or humanities. Students in these courses will include Cambodian graduate students and advanced undergraduates.

CIEE Study Center at Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan

CIEE is currently seeking a qualified professional to serve as the full-time Manager, Student Services for the CIEE Study Center in Tokyo, Japan. This individual is responsible for all general aspects of program operations including: student affairs and support, and general office support. This person will also be responsible for the day-to-day management of the summer program. The Manager, Student Services is responsible for ensuring the highest levels of program quality and customer satisfaction.

Qualified applicants must have post-graduate education in a discipline relevant to the mission of this program. A master’s degree and 4-7 years’ professional work experience, preferably in an international education-related position, are required. The applicant must be fluent in Japanese and English and have an in-depth knowledge of Japanese culture, history, business practices, and academic environment as well as U.S. higher education. Sales and Marketing Representative High School
Gap Year Abroad Programs

Reports to: High School and Gap Year Abroad Programs Manager

Location: CIEE Headquarters in Portland, Maine or Virtual if located out of state

Estimated Start Date: Fall 2009, as soon as possible

Summary of Position

Recruit students to participate on the High School and Gap Year Abroad Programs. Liaise with the Portland, Maine staff about best practices and ensure proper hand-off of applications to the operations team. Supervise school and community relations and build CIEE name recognition.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop region as needed in order to generate a designated quota of participants for the High School Abroad and Gap Year Abroad programs.
  • Approach schools within an assigned region to arrange visits, make presentations to students and parents about programs.
  • Attend teacher conferences, conventions, and school assembly presentations to sell all programs and foster on-going relationships with principals, teachers, counselors and district administrators.
  • Assist in the creation of the marketing plan.
  • Maintain a supply of materials for responding to leads. Work with marketing department on inventory of materials.
  • Coordinate with the operations team to ensure participants experience a smooth transition from application (sales team) to departure (operations team).
  • Maintain the database with current information on region’s high schools including relevant contact information.
  • General knowledge of the competition in the marketplace.
  • Participation as needed in the content planning and implementation of annual programs, which may include international and annual meetings and pre-departure and arrival orientations.
  • Assist in providing content to the web pages, intranet, and extranet pages, as well as newsletters and student publications.
  • Provide weekly updates, sales leads, and plans for school visits.

Help Desk Coordinator

Reports To: IT Manager

Department: IT Department

Summary of Position:

The Help Desk Coordinator works within a small team to handle day-to-day support of upwards of 200 CIEE local and remote users. Some tasks are recurring, but the job is very dynamic and day-to-day tasks can vary widely according to what challenges may arise. The Help Desk Coordinator will be problem solving extensively on a variety of computer related issues every day while balancing other maintenance and project work. Good communication skills and the ability to develop positive relationships with users are key requirements of this position.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Respond to requests for technical assistance in person, via phone, and electronically.
  • Diagnose and resolve both hardware and software issues.
  • Research questions in a timely and efficient manner utilizing available information resources.

High School Program Placement Coordinator

Reports to: High School Program Director

Location:  Portland, Maine

General Responsibilities:

Work closely with Program Director on facilitating logistical components of the placement process for High School Exchange students.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with field staff to compile relevant data for student status and local coordinator status.
  • Responsible for updating reports associated with student placement and field staff recruitment.
  • Tracking and fulfillment of placement incentives programs.
  • Record minutes and follow up on action items of the weekly Regional Director meetings.
  • Assist Outreach Coordinator in mailings, cold-calling, mail merge, and other outreach initiatives.
  • Assist in payment tracking and verification.
  • Assist in tracking and completion of placements prior to student arrival; checking references, etc.

High School Program Outreach Senior Coordinator

Reports to: High School Program Director

Location:  Portland, Maine, Headquarters

General Responsibilities:

Work closely with Program Director on creating and implementing marketing outreach initiatives to maximize our potential for exchange student placement in active and potential hosting communities. Identify outreach opportunities for CIEE’s High School Program in a way which can be leveraged appropriately for the identified markets.  CIEE’s grassroots marketing initiatives are geared towards rural towns throughout the United States, and include online advertising, postering, low-budget print ads, as well as cold-calling schools, organizations, and families. This position would be responsible for remotely coordinating these local grassroots initiatives.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Work in conjunction with the management team to implement market entry strategies for new areas of development throughout the US for placement of high school exchange students.  This includes identifying open schools in the area and researching the best strategy for market entry and host families.
  • Identify and capitalize on new outreach and recruitment opportunities.
  • Contact local schools in identified areas to track their policies regarding acceptance of exchange students.
  • Develop content and maintain quality of the web pages and extranet pages that are viewed by the public and utilized as part of our outreach efforts.
  • Participate in and attend national and international meetings, and additional required school and related conferences. (PTA, Kiwanis)
  • Develop the content of marketing tools including text for advertising, press releases, and communication materials to reach, schools, local coordinators, and host families.
  • Manage online advertising placement for each region in accordance with CSIET standards.
  • Liaise with CIEE Marketing department for production of marketing material.

The Program Director oversees the administration of study abroad programs and works closely with other managers to deliver faculty and other special programs (Teach in Chile, Teach in Dominican Republic) at the CIEE Study Centers. The Program Director achieves objectives through the supervision and management of resident staff as well as through strong collaboration with other business units in CIEE that directly impact successful delivery – Academic Affairs, Enrollment Management, U.S. Institutional Relations, Human Resources, Finance, IT, Marketing and Participant Services. 

This position plays an integral role in the overall management of the global, not-for-profit business, contributing in all key areas of business and financial management, as well as development and strategic planning. It requires the use of superior judgment and making key decisions relative to (but not exclusive of) policy, timing, and implementation in all areas of responsibility and continually, (and often immediately) applying sound judgment and knowledge to the expedient resolution of a broad range of issues relative to (but not exclusive of) individual students, program/Center staff, emergencies, and the like.

Primary Responsibilities

CIEE Study Centers

  • Plan all academic and management aspects of each program.
  • Manage and resolve all administrative and Study Center issues relative to each program.
  • Make hiring and termination decisions regarding resident staff.
  • Perform once yearly performance setting and goals reviews for each resident director and oversee this process for all other on-site employees.
  • Train resident staff on an on-going basis and contribute to CIEE group resident staff training programs.
  • Through resident staff, deliver high quality academic and co-curricular programming.
  • Advise resident staff on curriculum, hiring of teachers, syllabi, student services issues, facilities managements and general Study Center operations on an on-going basis.
  • Provide effective and expedient safety and crisis intervention.
  • Oversee legal issues pertaining to sites.
  • Regularly visit programs in the region to ascertain compliance with CIEE policy and procedures.

Regional Administration

  • Prepare and approve all program budgets for the region(s).  Annual regional gross revenues $10,000,000+
  • Plan and budget for annual activities, including capital expenditures. Monitor financial performance on a monthly basis.
  • Write Annual Study Center Reviews for publication on the CIEE website and detailed Critical Component Reviews for senior staff and CIEE Academic Consortium Board (ACB) review.
  • Negotiate host institution agreements.
  • Develop connections with key sending institution representatives on campus.
  • Field questions from U.S. based advisors, faculty, parents and students for enrolled participants.  Respond quickly to the needs of these individuals.
  • Provide high-quality support services from the Portland office.

Program Development

  • Assist EVP in the development of overall strategies related to program development and operations.
  • Develop new programs and reengineer existing programs to meet the needs of CIEE sending institutions and students.
  • Write catalog text for new programs and review current catalog entries on a yearly basis.
  • Working closely with the Academic Consortium Board (ACB), present new programming for ACB approval as well as facilitate the ACB evaluation and monitoring process.
  • Develop program specific strategic plans that reflect ACB evaluation visits, sending school feedback and the review of student evaluation comments.
  • Identify opportunities for new and improved programming in the region.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Business experience—Seasoned professional with 8-10 years of hands-on managerial experience in study abroad, international education exchange, or related not-for-profit institutional setting. Experience managing staff at a distance preferred.

  • Seasoned leadership skills—Proven ability to lead a team through the complexities and challenges of a broad range of operational, programmatic, and student affairs issues.

Working Conditions
