CIEE and the CIEE Academic Consortium (AC) are separate membership organizations. That being said, most CIEE members are also CIEE Academic Consortium member institutions and an institution can join both organizations for a single fee.
Institutions seek membership in CIEE primarily to affiliate with our mission and to have a policy voice in CIEE programs and activities through their election of the Board of Directors. As such, CIEE Members are part of a worldwide network of colleges and universities committed to excellence in international education.

Institutions seek membership in the CIEE Academic Consortium in order to have a more direct affiliation with CIEE study abroad programs collectively known as CIEE Study Centers. Voting representatives elect the Academic Consortium Board that has direct oversight of program evaluation and program development.
