A highlight of the Spain and Morocco IFDS in 2009 was the session lead by Eduardo del Campo, a reporter for the Spanish newspaper, El Mundo and author of the book ‘Odiseas’ on the immigration problem in Spain. Eduardo stressed that as the EU becomes more united, the higher the fence has grown between Africa and Europe, straining international relations between the two countries most affected by the short distance that lies between them. The illegal trafficking of workers from Moroccan shores into Spain was illustrated by a montage of photographs in his session, and later realized as the seminar came to a close, crossing the border back into the Spanish town of Ceuta from Morocco amid all of the desperate faces of those who will soon risk their lives over twelve miles of water hoping to follow their dreams in Spain.
