The Energy Sector and a Strategic Vision for Sustainable Development in Chile: Public Policy and Business in South America
As Chile strives toward economic growth and development, seeking new sources of energy to meet the consumption needs of the industrial sector is currently high on its list of priorities. These new sources of energy have become a national, strategic and public debate. In anticipation of investing in energy source exploration and exploitation, Chile has designed and put into practice a national system of environmental assessment. This situation has created a historical trade off in a developing country like Chile – how to find a feasible development model, based on economic growth, without damaging the natural environment. Currently, tension exists among business prospects and market participants, and governmental agencies and civil society, with no easy answers. This seminar will bring together researchers and scholars from academia, business and government leaders, and alternative energy activists and leaders to examine and grapple with the various issues within the current dialogue.
