

Dr. Patricio Varas Guerrero, Resident Director of the CIEE Study Center in Chile, is the faculty leader for the Chile portion of the seminar. Dr. Varas Guerrero has a Ph.D. in Linguistics from Pontificia Universidad Católica in Valparaíso and a Masters degree in Development Planning from Universidad de Los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia. He has taught public policies and discourse analysis at Universidad de Los Andes and Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, Chile. His current research interest is in the semantics of governmental discourse.
Dr. Gabriel Noel is the faculty leader for the Argentina portion of the seminar. Dr. Noel has a Ph.D. in Social Science from the University of General Sarmiento/IDES. He teaches postgraduate courses at the University of San Martín and FLACSO Argentina. His current research interests include the anthropology and ethnography of moralities (especially in relation to the establishment, reinforcement, and negotiation of social class differences) and the anthropology of conflict and violence.
