This seminar focuses on the political, social, and economic realities of contemporary Argentina and Chile. The differences and similarities between the two nations’ current situations are addressed. Both countries have emerged from authoritarian governance and are grappling with the issues of human rights and democratization. Chile and Argentina have experienced profound economic changes that have had implications in terms of income distribution, growth, and equity. Special consideration will be given to the matter of human rights violations and their ongoing consequences and how it continues to affect social relations and self-perception in both countries.
