IFDS seminars contain many multi-faceted components. The following is a breakdown of what you can expect on our seminars:
The seminar theme is the driving force for the design of the program. Lectures and site visits are chosen to support the theme.
Each seminar is organized around an interdisciplinary theme that is explored through a series of lectures given by local faculty experts and/or specialists from public and private-sector institutions in the community. Each session is conducted in English (or with translation) and is followed by discussion.
Closely coordinated with lecture topics are opportunities for participating faculty to visit academic, economic, educational, environmental, cultural, historic, political, religious, and/or social institutions. Participants also tour local sites pertaining to the seminar theme and attend cultural events or performances.
Each seminar has a faculty leader responsible for organizing the seminar's academic content and co-curricular site visits. Participants will have the opportunity to submit requests to the faculty leader prior to the seminar regarding specific interests, which the faculty leader will make every effort to include in the program.
The seminars are structured to include opportunities to meet with overseas academic counterparts. This interchange may be in the form of multilateral symposiums, discussions, and/or social events such as receptions or meals.
Seminars range in length from 7 to 14 days. They are designed for those who wish to make the most of their relatively short time overseas, and are heavily scheduled with academic lectures and related site visits.
CIEE International Faculty Development Seminars typically enroll a group of between 8 and 20 participants.
