Nominations + Elections
The Nominating Committee of the CIEE Academic Consortium Board annually seeks candidates for election to the Academic Consortium Board and a Representative to serve on the ACB Nominating Committee.
The Academic Consortium and the Academic Consortium Board
Membership in the Academic Consortium is open to any institution that wishes to enroll students in CIEE study abroad programs and that declares its desire to participate in the Consortium. The ACB is the official governing body of CIEE’s Academic Consortium and plays a key role in assuring the quality of CIEE study abroad programs.
Nomination Procedure and Election Process
Each Consortium member is asked to designate an Official Voting Representative to exercise the institution’s voting rights at annual meetings and by mail/email ballots. As the official voting representative of your institution, please email acbciee@ciee.org to recommend eligible individuals for possible nomination to the ACB. Please include the nominee’s CV and a brief description of why you are nominating this person. A general call for nominations will take place each winter, but nominations are accepted at anytime of the year. During the spring, the official voting representative will receive a mail ballot. A list of possible nominations will be proposed for vacancies on the ACB, and space will be provided for write-ins. According to the by-laws of the ACB, the mail ballot will also be used to elect a member of the Nominating Committee for the following year.
Eligibility
Eligible for election to the Academic Consortium Board are Official Voting Representatives of Consortium member institutions and any other faculty member or administrator from a Consortium member institution who have the endorsement of their official representative. (Current members of the Nominating Committee are ineligible for nomination to the ACB).
Members are elected to staggered three-year terms, with a limit of two consecutive terms. In addition, members are required to attend two annual ACB meetings in April and November, participate annually in program monitoring, and, on occasion, on-site evaluations of CIEE Study Center programs.
Criteria Sought
Individuals are sought who have demonstrated a commitment to international education and exchange and are in a position to influence internationalization efforts at their institution. It is expected that all nominees are from institutions or organizations that are members of CIEE, and who represent as best as possible a wide geographic, institutional, gender, and area studies distribution.
Specifically, the Nominating Committee is seeking educators with some of the following qualifications:
- diversity of institution type and region
- mixture of faculty and administrative experience
- familiarity and experience with CIEE programs
- need for several ACB members to be drawn from institutions that are major users of CIEE programs
- expertise in a second language and/or a world region
- understanding of program development and evaluation
- support from his/her institution for travel (at CIEE’s expense) to lead program evaluations
- ability to lead faculty evaluation teams abroad
Nominating Committee Representative
The Academic Consortium representative on the Nominating Committee, meets with the ACB Executive Committee at the CIEE Conference in the fall and then once again in early spring. The representative, who serves a one year term, helps ensure that the ACB election process is an open one. As the official voting representative of your institution please nominate yourself, or a colleague, for the nominating committee. Email acbciee@ciee.org to recommend eligible individuals for possible nomination. Please include the nominee’s CV and a brief description of why you are nominating this person.
